When I began paranormal investigating in 2011, one of the things I was required to have was a maglite flashlight to aid in communication. I was told that when you have the light loosened the entities could press on the tip for yes no answers.  You would see this technique used on the show Ghost Hunters and then on Kindred Spirits. See article Ghost Hunting 101

As the years went by, many people started to go away from this form of communication.  One article I found, Explaining the Flashlight Sessions, talks about how the light heats up causing the flashlight to go on and off on its own and showing it’s not paranormal.

But what if you captured EVP’s while it’s going on and off? Would you still consider it non-paranormal.

When I would use the maglite flashlights, I began to have index cards with yes/no on them.  Once I started this, I found that “Entities” would utilize the lights better than just using one.  But then, my mind got going and thought, what if it was a child and they couldn’t read?

As the years have progressed, you really don’t see the tv paranormal investigators use this technique anymore.  I actually have stopped using the technique and focussed more on EVP’s and Video evidence.

I wouldn’t suggest using flashlights as primary evidence while investigating.   My only thoughts on Primary Evidence is audio or video. Flashlights may possibly be validated if it coincides with an EVP but would have to be consistent to use as evidence.
